Fillet O’Tilefish (Golden Tilefish Sandwich with Malt Vinegar & Tartar Slaw)
For those who know us, you know that the a Golden Tilefish has been our mascot fish since 1985, so we thought we’d have some fun with it and do our take off a certain famous fast food fish sandwich. This is a ton of fun to make and way better than anything you’ll ever get out of a drive through, we promise!
Fillet O’Tilefish (Golden Tilefish Sandwich with Malt Vinegar & Tartar Slaw)
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 6oz Golden Tilefish Fillets, Skin-off
- 8oz Cole Slaw Mix or Shredded Cabbage
- 1 Cup Shore Lunch Mix
- ½ Cup Milk
- 2 Tbsp Malt Vinegar
- ¼ Cup Tartar Sauce
- American Cheese
- 4 Burger Buns
- Vegetable Oil
- Butter
- Salt
DIRECTIONS:
- In a mixing bowl, add shore lunch mix and milk and whisk to combine. Add fish to batter and toss to coat. Reserve until needed
- In another mixing bowl, add your cole slaw mix, malt vinegar, and tartar sauce and toss to combine. Season with salt to taste
- In a large pot over medium high heat, add just enough vegetable oil to cover your fish and heat to 350 degree
- Gently add the fish to the oil and cook until golden brown, crisp, and cooked through. Approximately 5-7 minutes
- Remove fish from oil and immediately season with salt. Place a piece of cheese over the hot fish and allow to melt
- Butter your buns and toast in a pan over medium high heat. Cook until golden brown, approximately 2 minutes
- Place the fish onto your toasted bun, top with your slaw, and enjoy!
